Ambiguity of Prepositional Groups and the Possibility of Its Automatic Processing

INTRODUCTION The objective of the present work is to analyze ambiguity of prepositional groups (Pg's) on the background of dependency based Functional Generative Description (FGD). Several basic types of Pg-ambiguity are presented and the possibilities of searching for their occurrences in the Prague Dependency Treebank (PDT) is illustrated. I aim at a formulation of linguistically-based rules for the detection of the appropriate sentence member (or members if two or more analyses are adequate) on which the given Pg can depend.
